My name is Preston Johnson and I’m a 14 year old singer/ songwriter living in Nashville, TN. My music is a contemporary/country genre. I have performed at many venues as a friend of the artist. Some of my favorite musicians are Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, and John Mayer. In my spare time, when I’m not playing guitar or singing, I enjoy playing sports and spending time with my family.
When I was 10 years old I wanted to take guitar lessons. I begged my mom to sign me up, and she finally let me. I took guitar lessons for about 3 months. I never practiced and I wasn’t very good. My guitar spent most of its life in my closet. As I grew older and more mature I appreciated music more and more. I was listening to Brad Paisley everywhere and every time I had the chance to. Brad Paisley was one of my greatest influences when I started to play the guitar again. Finally I got my guitar out of the closet and went back to playing. I was a little rusty at first because I had taken such a long break. I would go online and look up the chords to my favorite songs and before I knew it I was improving more than I did when I took lessons. Playing guitar is my favorite thing to do and I am still self taught to this day. Also when I picked up my guitar for the second time I started to sing and play at the same time. This made the whole thing come together. Eventually I started writing my own material. At first it needed a lot of improvement, but I would re-write and re-write until I got it how I liked it. I got into performing not too long ago. My first big performance was on vacation on the island of Turks and Caicos. Everywhere we would go that had live music, my dad would go up and talk to the performer and ask if I could get on stage and play a few songs. They said yes and I got to play. I was nervous and excited the first time I played. The songs that I played were Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison and Every Rose Has its Thorn by Poison. When I was done the crowd went nuts! At that moment I knew that music was what I loved. Since then I have played at many venues such as the Spotlight Theatre in Atlanta and The Blackberry Jam in Leipers Fork. Music is a big part of my life and I hope to keep it in my life forever.
